DAILY PRAYER FOR WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2012

Psalm 103:2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

PRAYER: Lord, just to know you and your kindness gives me reason to praise you.  That is what King David meant when he said “all his benefits”.  Knowing you means knowing your divine kindness even though I do little if anything to deserve your warm embrace.  Knowing you means knowing your generosity of sacrificing your own Son for the sake of sin-sick souls.  On top of all this you give me daily blessings.  Only because of your kindness and generosity am I able to lay my head on the pillow at night, relying on your never-ending care and your eyes wide open, watching over me.  Help me praise you with humble devotion and joyful service in response to all your kindness and generosity.  I thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

In Christ,

"Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and shun evil." - Proverbs 3:7

Dear Heavenly Father, the first sin revealed itself when Eve felt like she was wise in her own eyes.  All too often I am overconfident in my own thoughts and my own evaluation of things. Then I make judgments which I have to take back later.  Help me to rely more on your truth and insights and not on my own opinions or those of other fallen people.  I believe that you are watching everything that all of us is thinking and doing.  Help my thoughts and actions fall in line with yours today.  I want the people in my life to see you and your ways when they look at my life.  In short, Father, I want to be like Jesus.  Help me to grow into his likeness. AMEN

Daily Prayer Monday November 26, 2012

"12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author&nb sp;and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Dear Jesus, I want to finish the race of faith you have given me.  But it is so easy for me to get way off track or to grow tired of the trouble it brings to run.  Help me to remember the great saints of the Bible and those you have put in my life who have finished the race in the faith.  Help me to draw insight from their lives, their successes, their failures and how you restored them.  Help me to see you at the end of the race, scarred, smiling and cheering me on.  I want to finish my life safely in the race of faith.  Even thinking about you gives me strength to keep running. If you see anything in my life weighing me down, point it out to me, and give me the wisdom to throw it off so I can run faster and better toward the finish line.  Keep me safe in the faith Lord Jesus!  AMEN

Psalm 111:2 - Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them

Prayer: Father in heaven, thank you for who you are and for all that you have done. I am most thankful that your Son broke into human history a couple thousand years ago and that through his perfect life and sacrifice on the cross, I am reconciled to you as your child. You have also places around me loving people who care about my life and happiness.  You have given me a peaceful government and opportunities to share your word.  Even every breath is a gift from your hand.  You have given me challenges to strength me and make me grow.  For this and for much, much more I thank and praise you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

In Christ,

Daily Prayer Tuesday November 20, 2013

"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened." - Romans 1:21

Dear heavenly father, the verse above enlightens me on what humanity is like.  By nature we are futile in our thinking.  We get lost in all of our own thoughts without any light of the reality of your truth and grace.  We think of ourselves like gods, who made themselves, control themselves and bless themselves with wonder things in life.  In truth, we were made by you, We are preserved by you and everything we have is a gift from your hand.  You decided who we would be and where we would live.  So often in the futility of our own thinking, being thankful is miles away from our brain.  Thank you God for everything.  And please, please, forgive me for living without thankfulness so often.  It's great to be alive, to be saved by your Son and to have meaningful work to do.  Help me to beam thankfulness to everyone around me this week and always. AMEN

Daily Prayer Monday November 19, 2012

"My flesh and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." - Psalm 73:26

Dear heavenly Father, if I look to myself alone for strength I will come up empty.  I just don't have everything I need to sustain my health and attitude within me.  I need to look outside to you, my Creator and Savior. I am a tiny little creature in your huge world.  But you have promised that even though I am one of 7 billion, I still matter to you and you order every detail of my life.  When I think of this, nothing else matters so much,  I have you the God of the universe watching out for me.  Help to live in that strength today so I do not waste any precious time stressing over things of which I have no control.  Instead, give me the heart of a child that trusts in you and your unchanging presence.  Also, make me selfless like you as you free me up from focusing on myself.  Make me one who gives from the heart without any concern over what he gets to keep.  In Jesus' name.  AMEN

Daily Prayer for Friday, November 16

"See, I am doing a new thing!" - Isaiah 43:19

Dear Lord. In the past your people developed elaborate laws and practiced formalized religion. Their lives resembled a desert wasteland. Disobedient and rebellious, they faced destruction. Yet Isaiah electrifies the discouraged people by bringing the Gospel: "See. I am doing a new thing!" He refers to your new covenant of grace initiated by the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Lord, you have made a new way in the desert, where streams of water will flow to quench the thirst of your chosen people. Jesus by his death on the cross would blot out my sins. That new thing continues to bring new life today. Refresh me daily with your Word - your tool to draw your people closer. Let your Word work in my life so I too may share your goodness with those around me, so I too can tell you, "See, I am doing a new thing." Amen.

DAILY PRAYER FOR WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2012

Psalm 138:3 When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted.

PRAYER: O Lord, build up my faith today that I am bold and stouthearted.  Drive from my heart doubts that linger.  Dispel all my fears.  Take away my worries.  Grant me a stubborn faith that firmly lays hold of your promises even when my feelings and emotions tell me I shouldn't.  Grant me a bold faith that defies human reason and logic and simply trusts that you keep your Word (John 10:35).  With boldness and confidence help me live my faith even when it means going against the norm of this world. With boldness and confidence help me share with others the reason for the hope I have in you so they also eagerly wait for heaven.  In Jesus' name I pray.  Amen.

Daily Prayer for Tuesday, November 13

"So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong." - Kings 3:9

Dear Jesus. Solomon showed spiritual discernment by his request and asked for a discerning heart as he governed. He recognized the difficulty of his task and the need for dependence on God's wisdom. God granted his request and promised wealth and long life as well. What better request could I make than for a discerning heart - the spiritual discernment to know the difference between right and wrong, to admit my sins and ask forgiveness, to look to God's Son Jesus Christ, "one greater than Solomon" (Mt 12:42), as my Savior from sin, and to live joyfully according to God's commandments. Though I don't rule a nation, I also have responsibilities in my home, church, workplace or community. Jesus, please give me a discerning heart to enable me to serve you wisely and lovingly. Amen.

Daily Prayer Monday November 12, 2012

Ephesians 1:18,19, 22   18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know…19his incomparably great power for us who believe. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church.

PRAYER: Lord, there is so much happening in our world right now.  In the midst of it all, it’s so good to know you’re in control, your love is never-ending and you provide for us.  As the trees tu rn colors, and the nights grow cooler, may we be reminded that every season of our lives is a part of your loving plan.  Over this Veterans’ Day holiday, we thank you for the way you have protected and preserved our country through the service of the men and women in our military who gave their lives for our freedoms.  We thank you for providing men and women in each new generation who are willing to continue to make these sacrifices.  Give them the strength and support they need to carry out their duties.  Remind us to encourage and support them with our prayers and praise. Thank you for allowing us to live in the peace of knowing we are in your hands.  Amen.

In Christ,

Pastor Don Patterson
